What happens after installing Solar Panels?

Installing solar panels to your property is an exciting time because not only have you taken the step to help create a greener environment, you’ll also be helping to reduce your energy bills. But many people wonder what happens after our installation process. That’s why we’ve put together a breakdown of what you can expect after installing your solar panels with us.

Our handover process after installing Solar Panels

After successfully installing your solar panels, one of our friendly experts will reach out to you to discuss the next stage of the process. This will normally include information about the monitoring app, our solar PV handover pack and clearing your payment.

It’s important to note that we will only be able to send over the information regarding the monitoring and solar PV handover pack on completion of payment. Rest assured, we do not request any payment until your solar installation is fully completed. These crucial handover documents will enable you to register for an export tariff with your energy provider, should you wish.

As a reputable company, we take the responsibility of registering your solar installation with the relevant organisation schemes for your property. These include HIES, MCS, NICEIC, and Distribution Network Operator (DNO). The choice of schemes to register depends on whether your property is commercial or domestic, as they have different requirements for solar installations.

Before you receive your solar PV handover pack, we will send you the finalised quotation pack with our official letterhead. This pack requires your signature, which serves as the job sign-off, enabling us to release the final documents promptly.

Regarding the timeframe for receiving your documents, we strive to complete the process within a two week period of the solar installation completion. However, we always endeavour to expedite the process to ensure utmost customer satisfaction.

What to expect with your solar PV handover pack

This handover pack is the comprehensive collection of documents you will receive after installing your solar panels. It includes the MCS certificate, NICEIC Building Regulations certificate, a paid-in-full invoice, a schematic diagram of your system, and details regarding your DNO connection. We will also guide you on where to find the DNO notification email, which is an essential step in applying for the export tariff.

What is the significance of the MCS certificate?

The MCS certificate is provided by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, serving as proof that your solar installation has been executed and commissioned in compliance with the highest standards and within the guidelines set by the MCS.

This document holds great importance as it serves as the primary document required for the export tariff application process. We also advise you to keep this document safe as this will also be an important document your solicitor will request if you ever come to sell your home.

Applying for the Export Tariff

Due to data protection, you will need to approach your energy supplier directly to apply for the export tariff. Rest assured; we will equip you with all the necessary documentation you need for the application.

What warranties can you expect to receive?

Rest assured, we provide you with warranties for extra peace of mind. For domestic properties, we register the property for a workmanship warranty, which covers a period of 2 years. This warranty is issued by an external company called HIES, who will provide you with the relevant certificate. The warranties for the equipment installed at your property can vary as followed:

  • Sunsynk Batteries and Inverters: 10-year warranty
  • Solax/Solis Inverter: 5-year warranty
  • All solar panels have a 25-year linear performance warranty

To ensure the activation of these warranties, every component is pre-registered upon system commissioning, meaning you don’t need to do anything.
